TULIP
TULIP
Kingdom: Plantae
Family: Liliaceae
Subfamily: Lilioideae
Genus: Tulipa
Symbols of perfect love and heralds of spring, tulips are some of the most beloved and beautiful flowers. It is little known, however, that the species of tulips are so numerous that they must be divided into over a dozen categories. These categories can vary in color, flower shape, and blooming time. Below are just a few types and categories of types of tulips.
As the name indicates, single early tulips are among the first to bloom. Single early tulips bloom one flower per stem in the shape of a cup, with six petals that are usually pointed. Some examples of single early tulips are the white Diana, the Flair, and the red Merry Christmas.
Double Early Tulips
Early bloomers, such as the single early tulips and the double early tulips, have multiple petals and open fully in the sun. Good for rock gardens, some double early tulips varieties include the deep orange and yellow Bonanza, the yellow Monte Carlo, and the cherry pink Sven Dahlman.

Varieties include the Black Diamond, which is purple with black around the edges, the white and raspberry Sorbet, and the orange-red Avignon
Triumph Tulips
A cross between early and late flowering singles, triumph tulips bloom in mid-spring. They bloom one cup-shaped bloom a stem and are wonderful as cut flowers. Among varieties of triumph tulips are the scarlet red Oscar, deep purple Negrita, and aptly named Apricot Beauty.
Parrot Tulips
Hybrids of late flowering and triumph tulips, parrot tulips are large blooms the curled or twisted petals that form a bloom that opens very wide over time. Parrot tulips include the deep pink Fantasy, the purple and black Black Parrot, and the red and green Rococo
