The common name in English, "
marigold", is derived from "
Mary's Gold", a name once exclusively applied to
Calendula. In Nepal it is called '
शयपत्री' that means hundred leafed flower,
referring to its many florets per head.
TYPES:
There are two main types of Marigold found.
- French Marigolds,
- African Marigolds
French Marigolds grow to about 18 inches and found in colors ranging from yellow to orange with many different combinations. These make cheerful border plants for full-sun areas, and grow well in small to medium-sized vases.
African Marigolds are taller, growing up to three feet or more, with big, rounded, bold flower heads mostly in orange and yellow
