The common name in English, "marigold", is derived from "Mary's Gold", a name once exclusively applied to Calendula. In Nepal it is called 'शयपत्री' that means hundred leafed flower, referring to its many florets per head.

TYPES:
There are two main types of Marigold  found.
  1. French Marigolds,
  2. African Marigolds
French Marigolds grow to about 18 inches and found in colors ranging from yellow to orange with many different combinations.  These make cheerful border plants for full-sun areas, and grow well in small to medium-sized vases.
African Marigolds are taller, growing up to three feet or more, with big, rounded, bold flower heads mostly in orange and yellow
